Accessing appropriate Medical Resources at the proper time limits potential premature births The objective of the Maternal Newborn program is two-fold -- first, to ensure the quality of life for the expectant mother and her child and, second, to prevent or limit excessive medical costs related to complicated pregnancies and premature births. The focus of the program is to identify those high-risk pregnant women who may incur high medical expenses. While all expectant mothers are monitored and given educational materials to aid them in their pregnancy and subsequent care of their child, high risk pregnancies are given special attention. This attention is only possible because of the continual monitoring aspect of this program.
How your employees benefit Healthy Mother and Child - In addition to in-depth education, lifestyle counseling and constant monitoring, this program promotes a healthy birth, as well as reductions in subsequent hospital admissions and associated procedures in years to come. Education - Once we are notified of the pregnancy, the Maternal Newborn program provides the mother with a pregnancy calendar and Good Housekeeping’s Illustrated Book of Pregnancy and Baby Care. Our nurses will stay in contact with the expectant mother to provide any other information or materials that may apply to her pregnancy. Gathering of Resources - When a high-risk pregnancy is identified, this program will bring all of the necessary resources together to assure that as much as possible can be done to produce a healthy pregnancy. How your organization benefits Lower cost for high-risk pregnancies - High-risk pregnancies go undetected every day, even when the medical system is properly accessed. The Maternal Newborn program is hands-on and invests the necessary time to properly profile the mother and child’s risk factors. Once a high-risk pregnancy is identified, our maternity case managers work on the Plan’s behalf to ensure that the necessary resources are accessed, promoting the best chance to reduce pre- and post-natal expenses. The savings total $100,000 to $300,000 each time a premature birth is prevented. Approximately 20% of all infants are born with medical complications, of which 10% are considered to be serious medical conditions. Reduction of lost work time - Preventing or reducing medical conditions related to high-risk pregnancies will aid in returning your employee to work as soon as possible. |
